This is a personal blog and portfolio website currently hosted on GitHub pages. My goal is to develop my skills and turn it into a full website hosted on something like Azure Static Sites. This was created with Hugo, a new tool I recently challenged myself to learn. I’ll add projects to it over time that can be found here. I have also been expanding my cooking skills which I find helps me feel creative. Some of those experiments may also end up on here at some point as a sub blog. I find programming to be an extension of my creativity. I don’t think people explore other creative outlets enough. Last thing of major note for now is that this was also set up to use GitHub Actions for CI/CD.

I in this post I just want to give a little bit more information about myself and the content I will be posting on this blog. As you already know, I am Alex and I am from Hamburg, Germany. I have always been interested in computers, mostly because of my love for video games as a kid. Modding and cracking games has been a passion of mine in my youth.
After my A-Levels (german GCSEs) I traveled Australia and South East Asia for almost a year. While in Asia I got a scored on my apprenticeship to become a IT-Systems-Administrator. After coming back and moving into my first flat my apprenticeship started. This is when my self-hosting “career” began. I got my mates old RPi 3B+ and attached 2 2.5" HDDs loaded up openmediavault and began.

After successfully finishing my apprenticeship in 2020 I got a part time job as a systems administrator at radio.de GmbH in Hamburg. At first I only maintained the devices and network security but quickly my duties were expanded and I started managing the complete IT infrastructure, IT Security and Development Operations.
